As a self defense program, fitness regime, and sport, Muay Thai is the sport of Kings in Thailand and has been embraced by North American Culture. Our philosophy for Muay Thai training blends multiple concepts into one complete training program to help you to achieve your goals:

Traditional Techniques: We start with the traditional techniques of Muay Thai allowing you a rare opportunity to discover Muay Thai in its purest form.

Modern Science of Athletic Training: Added to our traditional focus, we incorporate the current science of training proven by athletes all over the world. Techniques ranging from plyometric, resistance and isometric drills to good old fashioned strength training to sculpt your body into a work of art

Art Fusion: Finally, we fuse the “old school” and “new school” with some of the best techniques extracted from traditional Boxing, and other Martial Arts

Blending these three strategies together allows you, as one of our students to be an active participant as we guide you on the road to your physical success! Whether you wish to concentrate on simply getting into shape, or focus on developing yourself as a Muay Thai fighter, we have a unique experience and plan for all of our students.

Muay Thai is about training the body, mind, and heart; developing concentration and dedication; showing patience and persistence with yourself and others; developing speed as well as Muay Thai techniques; showing respect for your community, and yourself; helping others when you have an opportunity; approach all situations with diligence and self-confidence; contributing to unity and spirit of the Muay Thai brotherhood; using common sense and intelligence when in a bad situation and practicing good Muay Thai means resorting to fighting only as a last resort.

The history of Muay Thai is interwoven with the history of the Thai people. A gentle, peace-loving people, for centuries Thai’s had to defend themselves and their land from aggressive powers. They developed a form of close, hand-to-hand combat best suited for the kind of rough-terrain battle they were fighting. Over time it became a rite of passage for Thai men to take up training in this martial art.

In the old days, Muay Thai was a very dangerous sport, with no safety gear of any kind for the fighters and only lengths of cords to wrap around their fists in place of gloves. The 1930′s saw the most radical change in the sport. It was then that it was codified and today’s rules and regulations were introduced. Rope bindings of the arms and hands were abandoned and gloves took their place. This innovation was also in response to the growing success of Thai Boxers in international boxing. Along with the introduction of gloves, came weight classes based on the international boxing divisions. These and other innovations – such as the introduction of five rounds – substantially altered the fighting techniques that the boxers used causing some of them to disappear.

The matches then were not fought in a ring as we know it today – for Muay Thai that is a recent innovation. Any available space of the right size was used, a courtyard, a village clearing. It wasn’t till the reign of King Rama VI that the standard ring surrounded by ropes came into use, as did time keeping by the clock. Before this period, time keeping was done by floating a pierced coconut shell on a boat of water. When the coconut piece sank, a drum signaled the end of the round.

Muay Thai has changed across the years. It has evolved from a battlefield close quarters killing technique based on a fighting tradition passed on from generation to generation up to the present time. Despite the changes of history, Muay Thai has lost none of its exotic appeal and even mystique.
