Our Youth/Kids program targets the tender age range of 5-12 years of age. Plopping the kids infront of the television or pushing a new gaming device into their hands always seems like a good idea until that same youngster stands indignant yelling, ”Mom, Kids Rule!” or their conversations with “live humans” is controlled by the duration of a pause button. All of these devices though designed with good intentions are primarily there to entertain and not teach your child. By enrolling your child in a Martial Arts program, your child is a student first and an athlete second.
Keeping your child engaged as an active participant gives the instructor the opportunity to earn your child’s undivided attention and help them to focus on the task at hand…ready to question, process and interpret the lesson. After absorbing the concept with active listening drills, we empower your child to apply what is being shared with them immediately and correct their interpretation to ensure safety and future success.
Fostering the development of links between controlling the body with the mind at an early age and demonstrating old fashioned values like respect and self-discipline, your youngster will quickly replace the “pop culture” attitude with a solid foundation for a happy, well-adjusted and fulfilled adult life.
Investigating different Martial Arts for kids often makes it difficult to understand how these seeming “acts of violence” teach your child anything worthwhile?
1) First, know that what you see on television is a far cry from what real martial arts are all about. The fact is, Martial Art training is based on non-violence.
2) Martial Arts range from a variety of types and styles, all of which are based on well-rounded, moral teachings.
3) The beauty of learning Martial Arts is that it encompasses not just the physical aspect of the “sport”, but mental and emotional lessons as well.
The Muay Thai Advantage
What type of Martial Art should you register your child for? There is no such thing as a Martial Art that is “better” as each one has its merit. We believe that the development of your child should become a partnership between the instructor and you. With a visit to our friendly facility, you and your child may investigate further to see if our curriculum and attitude is right for the goals that you have planned for your eager little one.
1) Muay Thai builds confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline, respect, concentration and courtesy. Respect for you as a parent is of up-most importance to us and we encourage you to let us know about their challenges during the week so that we may address it in class with them. Our focus is not to replace your authority but to reinforce it.
2) Muay Thai training is both an individual as well as a leadership and team activity. You will be amazed to see your more advanced child sharing their understanding of the task at hand with a newer student. These are leadership qualities that are naturally developed in our Muay Thai curriculum and throughout all of our training programs.
3) Muay Thai training is based on conditioning the mind first and the body second. With a strong mind, the physical aspects of Muay Thai become simple to follow and perform.
4) Muay Thai is about allowing your child to “find themself” within a structured environment. Memorizing a series of complicated steps to defend yourself is simply not something that exists in Muay Thai training. This simple difference and advantage allows your child to become more confident in their personal aptitude and technique and allows them to think for themselves. With a solid foundation of basic techniques, your child is encouraged to apply them to the situation at hand making it invaluable in standing tall…unwavering in a bullying situation.
Many parents also opt to join our martial arts training program themselves, making it a great bonding experience for the entire family. Led by Poo Choi Kru Noel Hussey, (the current and defending Super-Heavyweight CASK Provincial Champion), the program can be combined to create family discounts of up to 40% when more than one member of the family signs up.
